New york: Malaca±ang on Monday expressed optimism over the Philippines' push to secure a non-permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), emphasizing the responsibility that comes with the role in promoting global peace and security. In a press briefing at Hilton Garden Inn, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro highlighted the opportunity for the Philippines to contribute its voice to international discussions on global matters.

According to Philippines News Agency, membership in the UNSC would enable the Philippines to engage in discussions on peace and security that affect countries worldwide. Castro clarified that holding a non-permanent seat would not solely focus on the Philippines' interests. Instead, it would represent broader global concerns.

Castro underlined the significance of contributing to global safety, peace, and security, particularly on issues faced by different countries. "It's not all about us, it's all about everybody," she stated, emphasizing that the Philippines' voice should be heard once it becomes a member of the UNSC.

She acknowledged that while the Philippines has its own security concerns, its participation in the council would aim to serve the broader international community, especially Asia. Castro stressed that the role is not just a privilege but a responsibility to advocate for all nations.

The Philippines is actively campaigning for a non-permanent seat on the UNSC for the 2027-2028 term.
