Manila: Malaca±ang expressed respect for former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Rogelio 'Babes' Singson's decision to resign from the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI), citing health reasons as the primary factor.

According to Philippines News Agency, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro, in an interview with dzMM, acknowledged the demanding nature of the ICI's workload, which may have impacted Singson's health. Castro stated, "We respect former Secretary Babes Singson's decision, considering that his health was the main factor." She further noted the challenging nature of the ICI's responsibilities, including daily hearings on anomalous flood control projects and extensive paperwork.

Castro urged the public not to politicize Singson's resignation, emphasizing it was solely due to health concerns. She also highlighted Singson's intention to continue sharing his expertise with the DPWH, particularly in implementing the flood control master plan he initiated.

Despite Singson's departure, Castro reassured the continuity of the ICI's work under the leadership of retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Andres Reyes Jr. She stated, "There are still many capable people at the ICI, so it will not be affected." Castro defended the ICI's respectful interrogation process, contrasting it with other hearings where resource persons face humiliation.

She concluded that the commission, guided by a former Supreme Court justice, knows how to conduct investigations without disrespecting witnesses, maintaining a method to obtain the truth respectfully.
