Manila: The recent launch of a direct flight route from Vancouver, Canada to Manila is expected to significantly boost both tourism and the economy, Malaca±ang said Tuesday. In a press briefing, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro noted the positive impact the new flight connection would have on tourism.
According to Philippines News Agency, Castro emphasized that the availability of direct flights makes travel to distant countries more appealing. She stated, "It would be much better if we were traveling to a very distant country, people would really prefer a direct flight." With this new route, a surge in Canadian tourists visiting the Philippines is anticipated.
Castro further explained that the direct flights present a valuable opportunity for more tourists from Canada to visit the Philippines, enhancing travel experiences and economic benefits. She highlighted the mutual benefits for both countries' economies, strengthening bilateral ties and fostering increased travel opportunities.
Air Canada, the flag carrier and the largest airline of Canada, commenced its new Vancouver-Manila route last week. The airline will operate three nonstop flights per week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday throughout April, with plans to increase to four flights per week by May.
In 2024, Canada ranked sixth in tourist arrivals in the Philippines, with 269,300 visitors contributing USD304.32 million to the local economy.
