Pangasinan: The Pangasinan provincial government is set to receive PHP50 million from the national government for its post-disaster rehabilitation. In an interview on Monday, Vice Governor Mark Ronald Lambino stated that the funds will support house repairs, aid affected fishermen, and assist those who lost livelihoods, fish pens, cages, and boats during the recent onslaught of Super Typhoon Uwan.

According to Philippines News Agency, the partial damage to agriculture caused by Uwan, internationally known as Fung-wong, in Pangasinan has surpassed the PHP1-billion mark. The report from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) as of November 16 indicated that the damage included PHP102.3 million for rice crops, PHP605.5 million for fisheries, PHP561.6 million for high-value crops, and PHP37.2 million for corn. A total of 13,232 farmers and fisherfolk have been affected.

Partial damage to livestock and infrastructure in the province was estimated at PHP224.5 million and PHP176.5 million, respectively. During a recent visit by Special Assistant to the President, Secretary Anton Lagdameo, and other Cabinet secretaries, the provincial government highlighted the immediate needs of the disaster-affected agricultural workers. These include seeds, rice saplings, corn, mango, onion, and lowland vegetables, as well as fry or fingerlings of milkfish and white shrimp.

The provincial government also emphasized the urgent need for cash assistance for affected farmers and fisherfolk, along with the necessity of fish traps, gillnets, fyke nets, fish corrals, and motorized boats. Uwan has impacted 345,673 families, or 1.17 million individuals, in 42 towns and four cities in the province, leading to the declaration of a state of calamity. Notably, no fatalities were recorded in the province.
