Pangasinan Town Residents Urged to Evacuate as Floodwaters Rise

Pangasinan: The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Center (MDRRMC) here has renewed its call for residents to evacuate preemptively as floodwaters continue to rise in the town on Thursday. "We continue our call to our townmates to voluntarily evacuate or call our office if they need assistance in evacuation," MDRRMC officer Freddie Villacorta said in a radio interview. He also urged barangay officials to assist in rescue and evacuation operations.

According to Philippines News Agency, as of Wednesday, 21 out of Calasiao's 24 barangays were submerged after the Sinucalan River swelled and overflowed. Preemptive evacuations began early Wednesday morning, but Villacorta said calls for assistance increased by midday as floodwaters rose quickly in low-lying barangays Lasip, Talibaew, and Mancup.

Currently, 103 families or 348 individuals are sheltering at the town's Sports Complex, with more evacuees accommodated in barangay centers. The MDRRMC is using aluminum and fiberglass boats, along with equipment from the Pangasinan Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) and the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPO), in rescue operations.

The Philippine Army has also deployed a Water Search and Rescue (WASAR) team, while the Bureau of Fire Protection-Calasiao is providing additional support. To aid mobility, the local government activated a 'Libreng Sakay' service covering Malabago-Buenlag-town proper-Nalsian routes.

Mayor Patrick Caramat suspended classes at all levels and work in government offices, except those providing health, emergency, and social services. Nearby Sta. Barbara and Dagupan City are also experiencing severe flooding.
