Manila: The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP), and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) have announced the postponement of their scheduled Sunday games due to the impending threat posed by Typhoon Uwan to Luzon.
According to Philippines News Agency, the PBA was the first to cancel its games on Saturday, halting its planned doubleheader at Ynares Center 2 in Rodriguez, Rizal. TNT was set to play Magnolia in the initial matchup, followed by Ginebra against Titan Ultra in the second game. The PBA released a statement urging individuals to take necessary precautions and remain safe during the typhoon.
Despite the minimal effects as of 5 p.m., with Signal No. 2 raised in Metro Manila and Rizal province, the league continued with its Saturday schedule at Ynares Center 1. Blackwater was competing against Converge, and Rain or Shine was aiming to reclaim the solo lead against NLEX in the second game. Meanwhile, another PBA team, Meralco, was set to face the Taiwanese team Taoyuan in an East Asia Super League match at The Capital Arena in Ilagan City, Isabela, where parts were under Signal Nos. 1 and 2.
The collegiate leagues, UAAP and NCAA, also decided to postpone their events nearly simultaneously. The UAAP canceled its basketball, men's football, and high school volleyball games, emphasizing the safety of all participants and attendees. The NCAA plans to reschedule its basketball and chess matches. However, both varsity leagues proceeded with their men's basketball games on Saturday. Letran defeated Jose Rizal University, and San Sebastian edged out league-leading Perpetual Help in NCAA play, while University of the Philippines triumphed over University of the East in UAAP action.
