Manila: State weather bureau PAGASA on Saturday advised several communities near Magat, Angat, Cagayan, and Agno Rivers to take precautions as the five dams in the area are conducting preemptive water release. PAGASA said one gate each was opened in Ambuklao and Binga Dams, two in Magat Dam, and three each in Angat and Ipo Dams.
According to Philippines News Agency, areas likely to be affected include Barangay Ambuclao in Bokod, and Barangays Dalupirip and Tinongdan in Itogon, Benguet. Affected areas by Magat Dam's discharge include Ramon, San Mateo, Aurora, Cabatuan, Luna, Reina, Mercedes, Burgos, Naguillian, and Gamu in Isabela, as well as Alfonso Lista in Ifugao. The weather bureau has advised residents and local disaster risk reduction and management councils to be alert for possible flash floods.
Precautionary measures are also advised in Norzagaray, Angat, San Rafael, Bustos, Baliuag, Pulilan, Plaridel, Calumpit, Hagonoy, and Paombong in Bulacan. In its 11 a.m. advisory, PAGASA warned of riverside flooding and river bank erosion over the possible rise in water levels of Cagayan River beginning Sunday morning as Typhoon Uwan nears the Luzon landmass.
At present, the whole stretch of the Cagayan River, including its tributaries, remains below the alert water level, except at Tumaini Station which is still above alert water level. PAGASA noted that a slow rise in water levels might begin tomorrow and is likely to reach above alert level status in the afternoon.
Areas in Cagayan that may be affected include the towns of San Agustin, Jones, Echague, Alicia, Angadanan, Cauayan, Naguilian, Reina Mercedes, San Mateo, Cabatuan, Aurora, Luna, Gamu, Ilagan, San Mariano, Tumauini, Delfin Albano, Sto. Tomas, Cabagan, Sta. Maria, San Pablo, Pe±ablanca, Tuguegarao City, Enrile, Solana, Iguig, Amulung, Alcala, Baggao, Lasam, Gattaran, Lallo, Camalaniugan, Aparri, Tuao, Piat, and Sto. Ni±o.
