PBBM: Education, Social Programs to Steer Admin’s Remaining Years

Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said Tuesday his administration would focus on strengthening social protection and improving education in the remaining years of his term, saying these are the foundations of a stable and progressive nation.

According to Philippines News Agency, in the latest episode of his podcast, Marcos stated that his priority is not his political legacy but ensuring that Filipinos have access to basic needs and quality education. He addressed the topic of legacy, expressing that it's not a primary concern for him, as it is often associated with the end of life, which he does not foresee in the near future.

Marcos emphasized the importance of addressing essential needs such as healthcare, food, and shelter. Once these are met, he believes the government should shift focus towards enhancing the education system, which he deems crucial for achieving long-term national progress. He recalled a time when the Philippines was recognized for its high literacy rate and proficiency in English, expressing a desire to return to such standards.

He also highlighted the necessity of creating a system that provides Filipinos with the necessary training and skills to compete on a global scale. Marcos pointed out that while there is significant talent among Filipinos, many lack the means, support, and funding needed to succeed. He stressed the importance of preparing future generations to be well-educated and competitive internationally, citing the success of overseas Filipino workers and professionals as evidence of potential when proper education and opportunities are provided.
