Manila: Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. on Friday lauded President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for ensuring the government remains responsive amid the series of major events and challenges facing the country in the past days.
According to Philippines News Agency, Teodoro emphasized that President Marcos' "rock solid and steadfast leadership" enabled the government to manage significant responsibilities. These responsibilities include the recently concluded "Balikatan" military exercises, the Philippines' hosting of the week-long Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in Cebu, and the response to natural disasters such as the ash eruption by Mayon Volcano on May 2.
Teodoro praised Marcos for maintaining the rule of law and providing the opportunities for Filipinos to benefit from what international law offers today and for future generations. The DND chief expressed hope for a more "purposeful and impactful" "Balikatan" exercise in the following year.
He noted that peace requires resources, commitment, and sacrifice and expressed optimism for a more purposeful and impactful "Balikatan" in the future. Teodoro highlighted the importance of domain and situational awareness, along with the ability to interpret geopolitical developments in operations.
