PBBM: PH Wants Alliance Based on ‘Mutual Respect, Shared Goals’

Manila: The Philippines, which has evolved from a fledgling Republic to a responsible member of the international community, is seeking alliances based on mutual respect, reciprocity, and shared goals, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. stated recently.

According to Philippines News Agency, President Marcos addressed members of the diplomatic corps during the vin d'honneur at Malaca±an Palace in Manila. He highlighted his administration's efforts in reintroducing the Philippines to the global stage as a country open for business and eager for mutually beneficial cooperation with nations that share similar values and aspirations.

President Marcos emphasized the role of Filipino diplomats in securing international support for the country's national development agenda while ensuring the global recognition of the Philippines as a reliable partner and trusted peacemaker. He asserted the importance of alliances built on mutual respect and reciprocity, aligning with the country's socio-economic transformation priorities.

Marcos also reiterated the Philippines' steadfast defense of its sovereignty and territorial integrity. He noted the nation's significant contributions to global discussions on climate change, human rights, migration, regional stability, and maritime freedom. The Philippines aims to serve as a consensus builder on internationally significant issues, positioning itself to participate in international dialogue and safeguard its national interests.

The President outlined the country's independent foreign policy as proactive and true to national aspirations. He emphasized the importance of engaging with the world to build peace, cooperation, and enduring partnerships. Marcos called on international partners to continue active collaboration with the Philippines, especially as the country prepares to chair the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in 2026.

Marcos expressed gratitude to the diplomatic corps for their support of the Philippine government's economic initiatives and bilateral ties with partner countries. He assured them of the country's progress towards a 6 percent growth target, driven by fiscal consolidation, easing inflation, and trade negotiations with key partners.

Moroccan Ambassador to the Philippines, Mohammed Rida El-Fassi, vice dean of the Diplomatic Corps, affirmed the international community's renewed commitment to harmonious collaboration with the Philippines. He emphasized shared aspirations for peace, progress, and excellence, honoring values of freedom and sovereignty while fostering international cooperation.

El-Fassi expressed optimism for future collaborations between the Philippines and its foreign partners, pursuing lasting peace rooted in goodwill and mutual respect. He acknowledged the resilience of the Filipino people and the country's commitment to solidarity, prosperity, and harmony.
