PBBM Urges Intensified Operations Against Armed Groups and Loose Firearms in Sulu

Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday directed authorities to further intensify operations against private armed groups (PAGs) and loose firearms in Sulu as part of the administration's continuing efforts to consolidate peace and sustain development gains in the province. During his visit to the newly established Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB) 9B headquarters in Maimbung town, Marcos led the ceremonial turnover of 195 high-powered loose firearms voluntarily surrendered by civilians from various municipalities in Sulu.

According to Philippines News Agency, the President underscored the importance of sustaining intelligence operations and strengthening law enforcement capabilities to preserve security gains achieved in the province following years of peacebuilding efforts. The turnover formed part of the government's broader campaign to dismantle private armed groups and reduce the proliferation of illegal firearms, which authorities have identified as key factors in maintaining peace and order in conflict-affected areas.

The Presidential Communications Office said the government is pursuing a 'new chapter of peace' in Sulu through intensified campaigns against private armed groups and loose firearms while simultaneously strengthening the operational capabilities of law enforcement agencies. The President also led the rollout of the Bawat Bayan Makikinabang program in the province, bringing PHP82 million in financial assistance to barangays and rice aid to thousands of beneficiaries.
