Manila: House Speaker Faustino 'Bojie' Dy III on Monday stated that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s call for a special session of Congress on June 17 provides an opportunity to finalize legislative action on priority measures. These measures are aimed at enhancing social protection, expanding access to education and healthcare, and improving the quality of life for Filipino families.
According to Philippines News Agency, Dy emphasized that all measures identified by President Marcos in Proclamation No. 1318 have been approved by the House. These include the National Center for Geriatric Health Act, Amendments to the Government Assistance to Students and Teachers in Private Education Act, Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation Act, and several other acts designed to enhance social protection and uplift Filipino lives.
Before adjourning sine die on June 3, the House addressed 26 of the 52 measures under the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC) Common Legislative Agenda. Of these, one measure has been enacted into law, another has completed bicameral conference committee action, three are undergoing bicameral conference committee deliberations, and 21 have been approved on third and final reading.
In addition to the measures listed in the proclamation for the special session, the House has approved other LEDAC priority measures. These include the proposed National Land Use Act, Right to Information Act, amendments to the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), Department of Water Resources Act, restructuring of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), Waste-to-Energy Act, Digital Payments Act, and the proposed Anti-Fake News and Disinformation Act.
Dy reiterated the House's readiness to collaborate with the Senate and the Executive Branch to complete the legislative process and deliver meaningful benefits to the Filipino people. He stressed that the House's responsibility extends beyond passing bills to ensuring these measures become law and ultimately improve lives, opportunities, and security for the populace.
House Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander 'Sandro' Marcos added that the President's call for a special session reflects the administration's commitment to addressing urgent and impactful legislation promptly. He noted the importance of legislation that expands educational opportunities, strengthens assistance programs for vulnerable sectors, improves healthcare services, and enhances social protection.
Marcos acknowledged the House's readiness to act decisively on significant reforms and expressed eagerness to work with colleagues in the Senate and partners in the Executive Branch to finalize these measures and deliver lasting benefits to the Filipino people.
