PCG Deploys 300 Personnel, 10 K9 Teams for SONA 2026

Manila: The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is helping secure Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City and other parts of Metro Manila as part of security operations for President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday.

According to Philippines News Agency, PCG spokesperson Commodore Noemie Cayabyab stated that at least 300 security personnel and 10 K9-Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams have been dispatched to join other government security personnel. The deployment aims to bolster security and ensure safety during the high-profile event.

Some of the K9 teams are working alongside the Presidential Security Command (PSC), conducting explosive and security inspections to maintain order during the SONA. These measures are part of a strategic effort to provide a secure environment for the address.

Additionally, the 300 PCG personnel have been strategically positioned across Metro Manila to support interagency security and public safety operations. This coordinated effort is crucial for managing the security dynamics of the area during the event.

Cayabyab further mentioned that the K9-EOD teams are operating the Under Vehicle Inspection System at the North and South Gates of the House of Representatives. This system is crucial for screening vehicles entering the venue, as part of the comprehensive security measures put in place.

The deployment aligns with the PCG's commitment to whole-of-government security operations, supporting Marcos' 'Bagong Pilipinas' initiative and its Intensified Community Assistance, Awareness, Response, and Enforcement (iCARE) campaign.
