Tabaco city: The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) 5 (Bicol Region) reported on Monday the apprehension of a truck and its cargo over the weekend at Tabaco Port in Tabaco City, Albay, for allegedly engaging in the illegal trade and transport of 5,400 liters of petroleum products without the required permit.

According to Philippines News Agency, Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Tabaco commander Lt. j.g. Earl Cacho stated that the petroleum products have an estimated market value exceeding PHP500,000. Cacho noted that they are awaiting certification from the Department of Energy to determine the total value of the confiscated items and the truck. The ongoing investigation will further assess the market value using proper valuation standards, identify potential violations, and establish full accountability.

Cacho explained that the operation took place on April 11 during routine inspections and random K9 paneling of outbound cargo. During this process, PCG personnel intercepted and detained the truck scheduled to transport cargo from Tabaco City to San Andres, Catanduanes, upon discovering it was carrying petroleum products.

He emphasized the importance of inspecting every vessel before departure and verifying the legality of all cargo documents. Initially, the cargo was declared as cement, sacks of rice, and solar panels. However, upon inspection, it was found to be transporting petroleum products.

The CGSS Tabaco promptly coordinated with the Maritime Safety Law Enforcement Group Bicol for proper documentation, investigation, and legal proceedings. The driver, helper, truck, and cargo were taken to CGSS Tabaco for documentation and safekeeping while the investigation continues.
