PCO’s NIB Recognized as Top Performer in DBM 2024 Review

Manila: The News and Information Bureau (NIB), an attached agency of the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), has been recognized as one of the government's top-performing agencies in the 2024 Agency Performance Review (APR) conducted by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).

According to Philippines News Agency, the DBM released the results of the APR through its 'Budget ng Bayan Monitor,' highlighting that out of 308 agencies assessed, only 14, including the NIB, received an 'Outstanding' rating. Other agencies that earned this distinction include the Civil Service Commission, Mines and Geosciences Bureau, Foreign Service Institute, Public Attorney's Office, National Labor Relations Commission, and the Philippine Information Agency, another agency under the PCO.

Additional agencies recognized for their top performance were the National Wages and Productivity Commission, Games and Amusements Board, National Intelligence Coordinating Agency, and four state universities: Biliran Province State University, Cagayan State University, Davao del Sur State College, and President Ramon Magsaysay University.

The NIB is tasked with providing efficient and effective information services for the government, particularly the Presidency. It is responsible for developing and implementing domestic and foreign information programs and strategies to disseminate key government initiatives. The bureau also oversees the Philippine News Agency, the government's official newswire service.

DBM Undersecretary Rolando Toledo noted that agencies were evaluated based on physical and financial performance, as well as the timeliness and quality of submitted reports. The fiscal year 2024 APR results indicated that 59.34 percent of agencies were rated 'Very Satisfactory,' 30.82 percent 'Satisfactory,' 4.92 percent 'Unsatisfactory,' and 0.33 percent under 'Poor Performance.' Only 4.59 percent, or 14 agencies, attained an 'Outstanding' grade.

The APR is designed to strengthen accountability and transparency in government performance and ensure that public funds are managed efficiently, aligning with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s administration reforms.
