Iloilo City Launches ‘PuroKalusugan’ Program in Arevalo Barangays

Iloilo city: The city government has introduced the 'PuroKalusugan' program initiated by the Department of Health in three barangays within the Arevalo district. This move aims to enhance accessibility to health services at the grassroots level.

According to Philippines News Agency, the program was officially launched at the regional evacuation center in Barangay So-oc, benefiting approximately 200 residents. The program also extends to Barangays Sto. Ni±o and Calaparan, with a focus on preventive care, disease prevention, and health interventions across eight priority areas, such as proper nutrition, maternal and child health, adolescent health, and environmental sanitation.

Dr. Candice Magdalane Tupas, Iloilo City Executive Assistant on Medical Tourism and Health Initiatives, emphasized that while district health centers remain operational, 'PuroKalusugan' offers a more convenient option for residents. The initiative is intended to complement existing health measures, as outlined in DOH memorandum circular 24, series of 2025.

The event featured various facilities, including a WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene) corner, immunization lounge, teenage pregnancy booth, and nutrition station, catering to the health needs of the barangay residents. Dr. Tupas described the initiative as a mini-health fair that encourages community members to seek medical consultations.

Stakeholders at the ceremony pledged their commitment to support this inclusive and accessible community-based initiative. The event was attended by Iloilo City health officer Dr. Mary Ann Poli-Diaz and DOH Western Visayas Center for Health Development Assistant Regional Director Dr. Sophia Pulmones.
