Vancouver: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney witnessed the signing of four pivotal agreements on Thursday (Canada time) aimed at bolstering energy, labor, tourism, and cultural ties between the Philippines and Canada. The signing took place at the Vancouver Convention Centre following a bilateral meeting between the two leaders.
According to Philippines News Agency, the agreements include a Joint Declaration of Intent on energy and natural resources and a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on tourism cooperation. Additionally, an MOU on cultural cooperation covering the years 2026 to 2031 was signed, alongside a Joint Declaration of Intent regarding labor and migration cooperation. These agreements are expected to facilitate deeper collaboration in these sectors, enhancing bilateral relations between Manila and Ottawa.
President Marcos expressed satisfaction over the signings, stating, "I am glad to have witnessed today the signing of bilateral understandings and declaration of cooperation in the areas of tourism, culture, and labor and migration." He emphasized that these agreements will strengthen the strong people-to-people ties between the two countries and help build capacities for a mutually beneficial talent pipeline for the future.
The new agreements reflect the sustained commitment of the Philippines and Canada to further fortify their long-standing bilateral relations. They aim to create new opportunities for economic growth, enhance people-to-people exchanges, and promote sustainable development.
