PH Padel Team Gears Up for Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games

Manila: The national padel team from the Philippines is preparing for its next significant challenge-the Asian Games, which are scheduled to take place from September 19 to October 4 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. This event marks the debut of padel in the Games, and the team is keen on making a substantial impact.

According to Philippines News Agency, the team, led by captain Argil Lance 'LA' Ca±izares and including members Jason Anthony Tamayo Lapidus, Tao Yee Tan, and Marian Jade Capadocia, is currently undergoing intensive training in Madrid, Spain. This preparation is crucial as they aim to build on their recent success, having won back-to-back professional division titles at the Asia Pacific Padel Cup (APPC) at the Play Padel McKinley West in Taguig City last June.

"The Asian Games represents a historic opportunity for padel in the Philippines. The inclusion of padel on this stage reflects the sport's rapid growth across Asia, and we are committed to ensuring that our athletes are ready to compete against the continent's best. We hope to showcase not only the talent of our players, but also the progress the Philippines has made in developing the sport," Padel Pilipinas president Jeff Cheng stated in a news release on Monday.

"We are proud of what was accomplished at APPC 2026, and now our work continues. The experience gained here will be invaluable as we prepare for the challenges ahead and continue striving to raise the level of padel in the Philippines," added Padel Pilipinas secretary general, Atty. Duane Santos.

In parallel with the team's preparations, Padel Pilipinas is also focusing on developing its grassroots programs and training coaches from various parts of the country. The Padel Pilipinas Open recently highlighted this effort by featuring junior players from Talisay City, Cebu, and Taguig City competing in the amateur category.
