Manila: The Philippines has expressed grave concern over recent developments in the Strait of Hormuz and reported attacks in the Middle East, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Monday. The agency made the statement following strikes on two ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz, an event that prompted the United States to strike Iran.
According to Philippines News Agency, the strikes could mean that the Middle East ceasefire that forms part of a June 17 memorandum of understanding between the two countries might be nearing a threshold. The DFA called on all parties involved in the region to prioritize diplomacy and prevent the escalation of hostilities.
'The Philippines is gravely concerned with the recent developments in the Strait of Hormuz and the reported attacks in the Middle East,' it said. It also emphasized the importance of maintaining regional stability and urged the conflicting sides to honor existing peace commitments.
'We continue to urge all involved parties to remain committed to the initial peace agreement and pursue constructive dialogue in finding a negotiated diplomatic solution to the conflict, as well as refrain from actions that could undermine the progress of the peace talks,' it added.
