PMA Alumni Urge Unity Amid ICC Warrant for Senator Dela Rosa

Manila: A ranking official of the Philippine Military Academy Alumni Association, Inc. (PMAAAI) on Thursday called on its members to remain "calm and non-partisan" amid the impending arrest of one of its members, Senator Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for being a co-conspirator in alleged crimes against humanity.

According to Philippines News Agency, PMAAAI chair Ricardo David Jr., a member of PMA Class of 1977, made a public appeal on the group's Facebook page, urging its members to stay united and avoid partisanship as discussions around Senator dela Rosa's situation unfold. Dela Rosa, a member of the PMA Class of 1986, has sought support from his fellow PMAers amidst efforts to arrest and transport him to the ICC headquarters in the Netherlands.

David acknowledged the diversity of opinions among the PMAAAI members regarding the matter, emphasizing that differing views and perspectives are natural as members perform their respective duties and uphold their convictions. Despite this, the association remains committed to the principles of justice, due process, respect for the rule of law, and the independence of Philippine institutions.

He further urged members to uphold the PMA values of honor, integrity, professionalism, and unity, cautioning against divisive rhetoric, personal attacks, and premature judgment. David stressed that the brotherhood among PMAAAI members should be stronger than their differences and encouraged members to conduct themselves in a manner worthy of the PMA ideals.

The ICC has confirmed that the arrest warrant against dela Rosa, which circulated in the media, is a formal ICC document. The document was unsealed and classified as 'public' on May 11. After a six-month absence, dela Rosa resurfaced and sought refuge at the Senate on Monday. Tensions rose at the Senate following a shooting incident on Wednesday night, and reports soon emerged that dela Rosa had left the building.
