PNP Chief Urges Personnel to Uphold Traffic Laws and Serve as Role Models

Manila: The Philippine National Police (PNP) has issued a stern reminder to all personnel to strictly observe traffic laws and regulations of other government agencies, following reports of officers being flagged for violations. PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. emphasized that law enforcers must be the first to obey the law, underscoring that discipline within the organization is non-negotiable.

According to Philippines News Agency, Gen. Nartatez highlighted that as law enforcers, it is incumbent upon all policemen to be role models in respecting even the simple rules and regulations. He stated, "Our badge and uniform are symbols of the rule of law, keep it that way." Nartatez stressed that accountability starts within the ranks, in line with the PNP Ethical Doctrine Manual, adding that the conduct of personnel in public reflects the integrity of the institution.

The warning came after two police officers were seen in viral photos riding motorcycles without wearing protective helmets. Similar cases have been reported in the past, Nartatez noted, adding that the issue must be addressed starting with immediate commanders.

Earlier, Nartatez tasked all police commanders to properly supervise personnel under their units to ensure discipline and proper guidance are instilled down to the lowest level. He mentioned that this is part of the Enhanced Managing of Police Operations, which must be strictly implemented in every unit and police station. "Your men are your responsibility and if you fail to do your job of properly supervising them, then expect accountability to come next," Nartatez said.
