Manila: The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday said it is intensifying preparations for the anticipated nationwide 'Trillion Peso March' set on Nov. 30, on the heels of the peaceful conclusion of the anti-corruption rallies held by the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC).
According to Philippines News Agency, acting PNP chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. stated that the security plan used for the recently concluded two-day INC protest will serve as the blueprint for the upcoming mass demonstration. This event is organized by church groups, civil society organizations, and other entities in response to alleged corruption in government flood control infrastructure projects.
Lt. Gen. Nartatez emphasized that the focus will now shift to the 'Trillion Peso March', ensuring that there is sufficient personnel and equipment to maintain order and safety. Coordination with local government units and organizers is ongoing to ensure the event proceeds smoothly and peacefully.
The PNP has adopted a clear approach of maximum tolerance for those peacefully exercising their rights, alongside zero tolerance for any form of violence or unlawful activity. Participants are urged to follow instructions from PNP personnel, respect fellow participants, and contribute to a safe and orderly environment.
In preparation for the march, the PNP's operational readiness includes pre-deployment of personnel, medical assistance teams, and close coordination with local government units for swift emergency response. Lt. Gen. Nartatez outlined the goal of achieving zero violence, zero untoward incidents, and a safe environment for everyone involved.
Potential threats identified include crowd congestion, road accidents, and isolated incidents of lawless behavior similar to past protests in Manila. The PNP has set up multiple checkpoints, rapid response teams, and is working closely with emergency services to mitigate these threats.
Lt. Gen. Nartatez highlighted the lessons learned from recent rallies, assuring that personnel are ready and alert for the upcoming event. Motorists and nearby communities are reminded to anticipate heavier traffic and plan alternative routes based on official advisories regarding security checkpoints and traffic adjustments.
PNP Spokesperson Brig. Gen. Randulf Tua±o stressed the importance of public cooperation, encouraging participants to enjoy their right to participate without fear. He urged everyone to cooperate with security measures, avoid bringing prohibited items, and prioritize safety.
