Quezon city: The Philippine National Police - Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) has introduced an Information Management System (IMS) aimed at bolstering efforts against car theft and road crimes. The launch was held at the HPG headquarters at Camp Crame in Quezon City, marking a significant step in the group's initiative to enhance public service through technology.
According to Philippines News Agency, PNP-HPG acting director Col. Hansel Marantan stated that the IMS will streamline the processing of HPG clearances and provide a unified nationwide database for real-time verification of alarmed vehicles. This system is designed to enable HPG personnel to promptly identify suspicious or stolen vehicles, thereby offering the public a more efficient and transparent service.
Col. Marantan highlighted that the IMS will improve data integration and coordination with law enforcement partners, enhancing the agency's capacity to track stolen vehicles and identify criminal groups on national roads. He noted that this innovation will be crucial in enhancing operations, ensuring faster, efficient, and reliable service, and strengthening the group's ability to combat carnapping and other crimes.
The PNP-HPG also inaugurated a Mobility Service Bay dedicated to maintaining the group's motorcycle patrol fleet. Marantan emphasized the importance of keeping the motorcycles, vital for mobility and quick response, in optimal condition to serve the public effectively.
He further stressed that these advancements are part of a larger modernization agenda, aligning with the PNP vision and government initiatives for safer highways. As acting director, Marantan has directed the HPG to focus on restoring order on national highways, tackling issues such as carnapping, reckless driving, and the unauthorized use of sirens and blinkers, in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s call to address service inefficiencies.
