Manila: The Philippine National Police (PNP) has instructed the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) to investigate the origins and intent behind five caskets left in various locations throughout Metro Manila. These caskets, discovered on Friday, bore messages critical of China and the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army.

According to Philippines News Agency, PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. announced that police units are working closely with local government units and relevant agencies to address the situation. The caskets were found in Sta. Cruz, Manila; Barangay 54, Caloocan City; Barangay South Triangle and Barangay Sta. Teresita in Quezon City; and along Gil Puyat Avenue in Makati City, having been deposited by individuals traveling in white and gray vans between early morning hours.

Gen. Nartatez emphasized the importance of verifying information, urging the public to rely on official sources and avoid spreading unverified claims. He invited anyone with information on the incidents to contact the police through official channels or by calling Unified 911. The caskets and materials found at the scenes have been secured to facilitate the investigation, which aims to determine if any laws or ordinances were breached.

In a related statement, NCRPO chief Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin confirmed that security footage from the locations is being reviewed to aid the investigation. The NCRPO views the caskets as deliberate attempts to garner attention and possibly incite public concern. Metro Manila police units have been instructed to heighten vigilance and prevent similar incidents during the ongoing investigation. Responding officers from the Quezon City Police District reported that the caskets contained crumpled papers.
