Postpone Trip, Travelers Told Amid Habagat, Tropical Depression ‘Dante’

Manila: Travelers are encouraged to "reconsider" their trips to destinations affected by heavy rain and strong winds due to the southwest monsoon or "habagat" enhanced by Tropical Depression Dante.

According to Philippines News Agency, in an advisory on Tuesday night, the Department of Tourism (DOT) said it is closely monitoring the situation in the following regions: Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), National Capital Region (NCR), Region I (Ilocos Region), Region II (Cagayan Valley), Region III (Central Luzon), Region IV-A (Calabarzon), Region IV-B (Mimaropa), Region V (Bicol), and Region VI (Western Visayas).

"Due to the ongoing inclement weather, travelers planning trips to affected destinations are strongly encouraged to reconsider their travel plans and stay updated on possible service interruptions, site closures, or route changes," the advisory stated.

The DOT reminded travelers that heavy rainfall and potential flooding are anticipated to significantly affect transportation services, including flights, ferries, and land transport. Hotels, tour operators, and transport services were urged to prepare for possible service interruptions and provide appropriate assistance to tourists.

"It is vital that guests are kept informed of any changes in services, including cancellations or rescheduling," the DOT emphasized.

The advisory also highlighted the regions expected to experience adverse weather conditions on Wednesday and Thursday, including Ilocos Region, Zambales, Bataan, Bulacan, Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Visayas, and several provinces in Mindanao.

The DOT likewise warned tourists of the risk of rough seas over specific coastal waters identified by the state weather bureau, including the seaboards of Batanes, Kalayaan Islands, Zambales, Bataan, Lubang Island, Occidental Mindoro, and Calamian Islands. Moderate to light sea conditions were also noted in other areas.

The DOT assured that it stands ready to assist affected tourists and tourism stakeholders during this period of inclement weather.
