Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has directed Secretary Jay Ruiz to persist in his responsibilities as the head of the Presidential Communications Office (PCO).
According to Philippines News Agency, PCO Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro conveyed during a Palace briefing that the President encouraged Secretary Ruiz to maintain his work. The Commission on Appointments (CA) was initially set to review Ruiz's appointment on June 3, but the session was postponed due to time constraints.
Castro emphasized that the CA's scheduling change will not interfere with the PCO's ongoing initiatives to combat fake news and misinformation. She noted that the President's directive remains consistent, urging the PCO to actively fight against fake news regardless of its leadership.
Three media organizations have publicly backed Ruiz, recognizing his professionalism and journalistic integrity. The Publishers Association of the Philippines Inc. (PAPI), Justice Reporters' Organization (JUROR), and Soccsksargen Press Club all expressed confidence in his ability to lead government communications effectively. JUROR highlighted Ruiz's extensive newsroom experience as a significant asset in managing public communication demands.
