Speaking during the grand parade at Quirino Grandstand in Manila to mark the 127th Independence Day, Marcos urged Filipinos to safeguard the nation's values and culture.
According to Philippines News Agency, President Marcos highlighted the importance of nurturing and defending freedom, noting that it is a right that requires daily protection. He warned against the dangers posed by falsehoods and misinformation, stating that some individuals promote false beliefs for personal gain, which jeopardizes the welfare of the Filipino people. Marcos called for critical thinking and truth-seeking among citizens to fight against lies.
In his speech, Marcos also pointed out that indifference is the true enemy of freedom. He urged public servants to deliver genuine service aimed at improving the lives of Filipinos. He stressed the need for quick responses to public needs and a commitment to high-quality service, warning that those who neglect their duties will be held accountable.
Prior to the parade, President Marcos led a nationwide commemoration of Philippine Independence with a flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremony at the Rizal Park Monument. These events honored national hero Jose Rizal, whose revolutionary works played a crucial role in the country's fight for independence. Simultaneous ceremonies occurred at various historic sites, including the Dambanang Emilio Aguinaldo in Cavite and the Barasoain Church in Bulacan.
