PRO-9 Nets PHP103.3 Million in Smuggled Cigarettes in Zamboanga Peninsula Crackdown

Zamboanga Peninsula: Police in Zamboanga Peninsula have confiscated PHP103.3 million worth of smuggled cigarettes since January, PRO-9 director Brig. Gen. Roel Rodolfo reported Tuesday. The operations demonstrate a significant effort to curb the illegal cigarette trade in the region.

According to Philippines News Agency, the 51 anti-smuggling operations led to 78 arrests and the seizure of 1,665 master cases, 5,266 reams, and 452 packs of illicit cigarettes across the region. Brig. Gen. Roel Rodolfo emphasized the importance of these operations in strengthening border security, a priority since he assumed command on January 12.

PRO-9 has deployed 14 upgraded watercrafts for round-the-clock patrols in identified smuggling hotspots, stretching from Sibuco to Isabela City. This strategic move is in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to intensify efforts against organized crime, highlighting the government's commitment to securing maritime corridors.

Rodolfo acknowledged the dedication of personnel and partner agencies in these operations and stressed that no one is above the law. He promised to maintain a zero-tolerance policy toward smuggling activities, noting the enhanced interdiction capabilities in the region.
