Manila: Both the Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) and the peso ended Friday down after investors took profit. The main equities index shed 0.48 percent to 6,413.18 points, and the broader All Shares by 0.30 percent to 3,796.97 points.
According to Philippines News Agency, only the Holding Firms gained during the day, rising by 0.07 percent. Property led the decliners after it went down 1.21 percent. It was followed by the Mining and Oil, which fell by 1.12 percent; Financials by 0.70 percent; Industrial by 0.33 percent; and Services by 0.12 percent. Volume reached 1.69 billion shares amounting to PHP6.95 billion. Decliners led advancers at 112 to 93 while 48 shares remained unchanged.
Luis Limlingan, head of sales at Regina Capital Development Corp., attributed the sentiments in the local bourse to profit-taking. He noted investors' decision to stay on the sidelines for 'possible price reactions of the rebalancing of the PSEi and the release of more earnings reports from various sectors.'
The local currency also ended the week at 57.11, after improving to 56.65 on Thursday. It opened the day sideways at 56.75 and traded between 56.75 and 57.16, with the day's average standing at 56.93. Volume rose to USD1.64 billion from USD1.37 billion a day ago.
