NGCP Begins Restoration of Typhoon-Emong Affected Transmission Lines

Manila: Restoration on transmission lines affected by Typhoon Emong (international name Co-May) in Northern Luzon has started, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said Friday.

According to Philippines News Agency, the power transmission operator did not give specifics on what lines are being restored but mentioned that its crews are now inspecting and assessing the damage. As of 1 p.m., the affected lines include the Labrador-Bolinao 69kV Line, which serves the Central Pangasinan Electric Cooperative (CENPELCO) and the Pangasinan 1 Electric Cooperative (PANELCO 1).

Additionally, the Bauang-San Fabian 69kV Line, the Bauang-Naguilian 69kV Line, the Bauang-San Fernando 115kV Line, and the Bacnotan-Bulala 69kV Line, all of which serve the La Union Electric Cooperative (LUELCO), have also been impacted. The advisory emphasized that power loss may be due to affected transmission facilities of NGCP or distribution facilities of local distribution utilities or electric cooperatives. Specific cities and municipalities affected by the power interruptions are determined by concerned Distribution Utilities unless the outage affects the entire franchise area.

The weather bureau, in its 2 p.m. bulletin, reported that Typhoon Emong has weakened into a tropical storm with maximum sustained winds of 85 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 115 kph. It was last located over Calayan, Cagayan.
