QC Backs Dizon’s Appointment at DPWH, Bats for Flood Control Reforms

Quezon city: The Quezon City government has expressed full support for the appointment of Secretary Vince Dizon as the new head of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). In a statement on Sunday evening, the city government expressed confidence in Dizon's ability to deliver reforms, lauding his track record as public servant who brought 'transformative results' in his previous national roles.

According to Philippines News Agency, the city government stated, "We are confident that under his stewardship, the DPWH will further embody transparency, accountability, and efficiency in the implementation of public infrastructure." The statement highlighted the expectation that Secretary Dizon will champion strategic, science-based, and community-driven solutions to the persistent problem of flooding, such as the adoption and scaling of Quezon City's Drainage Master Plan.

The government also expressed hope that Dizon would implement reforms to effectively address the persistent problem of urban flooding, which severely affects the city, particularly during periods of heavy rain. It emphasized that these reforms are essential to ensure that public funds are maximized for infrastructure that safeguards lives, protects property, and builds resilience against climate change.

The Quezon City government assured Dizon of its full support and active cooperation in implementing infrastructure projects that are safer, more inclusive, and climate-resilient. Before his appointment as DPWH secretary, Dizon served as president and chief executive officer of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), as testing czar during the Covid-19 pandemic, and most recently as secretary of the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

Dizon replaced Manuel Bonoan, who resigned as DPWH secretary amid ongoing investigations into anomalous flood control projects involving the department.
