Quezon City: The Quezon City government is inviting the Catholic faithful to a meaningful journey that weaves spirituality and cultural heritage this Holy Week.
According to Philippines News Agency, in a Facebook post on Monday, the city government announced its 'Pamana at Pananampalataya: Bisita Iglesia sa QC 2025' (Heritage and Faith: Bisita Iglesia in QC 2025) initiative. This event aims to blend devotion with the rich history of the city's churches through a self-guided pilgrimage during Holy Week.
More than just a religious tradition, the city government explained that this year's 'Bisita Iglesia' offers a unique way to reflect and reconnect with one's faith while learning about the architectural and historical treasures within Quezon City. Pilgrims can also submit personal prayers, light virtual candles, and meditate on the historical significance of each church they visit.
To encourage residents to participate, the city government plans to distribute digital certificates and tokens to participants. A total of 19 churches have been listed for the event, including notable sites such as the Edsa Shrine, St. Ignatius Cathedral, Real Monasterio de Santa Clara de Manila, Shrine of St. Joseph, Immaculate Conception Cathedral of Cubao, Minor Basilica of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, and the National Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes, among others.
'Ang lahat ng kalahok na makakakumpleto ng pagbisita sa pitong simbahan mula sa 19 na piling simbahan ay makatatanggap ng digital certificate bilang pagkilala sa kanilang debosyon. Bukod dito, ang unang 100 kalahok ay tatanggap din ng token (All participants who complete a visit to seven churches out of 19 selected churches will receive a digital certificate in recognition of their devotion. In addition, the first 100 participants will also receive a token),' the post read.
The city government highlighted that this initiative elevates the traditional Bisita Iglesia by incorporating modern technology. To participate, pilgrims need to activate their device's location services, select seven churches, scan the QR code posted at each participating church, and register online. Each church visit unlocks information about the site's history and offers guided reflections and prayers, making the journey both spiritual and educational.
Registration opens on Tuesday and is available to all interested pilgrims. Through this activity, the city government hopes that the faithful will have the opportunity to walk in faith, reflect deeply, and reconnect with the spiritual and cultural roots that shape the community.
