Region 1 Electric Cooperatives Mobilize to Restore Power in Typhoon-Affected Ilocos Norte

Ilocos norte: Electric cooperatives from Region 1 have dispatched five teams to the province to aid in restoring electricity after Super Typhoon Nando left many areas without power. The teams, comprising 36 linemen from Pangasinan, La Union, and Ilocos Sur, arrived at the Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative's (INEC) headquarters in the morning and were quickly deployed to various locations to expedite the repair of damaged transmission lines.

According to Philippines News Agency, Jesus Ermie Salangad, the lead from the Central Pangasinan Electric Cooperative, expressed the team's commitment to aiding those affected. He assured member-consumers that every effort would be made to hasten the restoration process across the province. John Philip Dungan of the La Union Electric Cooperative mentioned their all-out support for INEC's efforts to revive the electricity supply.

Ilocos Norte Vice Governor Matthew Joseph Manotoc extended gratitude to the cooperatives for their invaluable assistance in helping the province recover. He acknowledged the cooperative task force, including ISECO, LUELCO, PANELCO I, CENPELCO, and PANELCO III, for their dedication and expertise.

INEC reported that by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, they had successfully energized 267 out of 559 barangays, achieving a 66.91-percent energization level. This progress has restored power to 117,094 households out of the 190,000 registered member-consumers. However, efforts continue to serve the remaining 30 percent of barangays, which accounts for approximately 78,000 households still without power. INEC appealed for patience and understanding from the affected consumers as restoration efforts proceed.

In a spirit of reciprocity, it was noted that INEC previously aided Pangasinan by sending a team to assist in power restoration following Typhoon Emong in July.
