Butuan: The office of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has issued a warning to residents in the Caraga Region regarding an online job offer scam that is currently circulating.
According to Philippines News Agency, SEC-Butuan released an advisory on Friday highlighting that two companies, OHO Marketing Ltd. and OHO Digital Marketing Agency, are actively soliciting investments from the public under false pretenses. These companies, based in the US and the UK, entice recruits to watch videos on Facebook to earn money, despite lacking authorization to solicit investments.
The SEC office emphasized the need to raise awareness about this scam, noting, "We are warning the public about this kind of scam. Though we have not yet received any complaint from the region, the SEC wants to intensify its information drive on this because their operation is online."
OHO Marketing, which started operations in June 2025, maintains a Facebook page called 'OHO Tasking (Marketing Ltd.) Philippines.' The page encourages individuals to register through an online link, promising earnings for completing tasks such as watching videos or songs and clicking a rate button.
The supposed income for recruits varies based on their initial investment and task completion. For example, investing PHP1,600 and completing five tasks can reportedly yield PHP11 per task, amounting to PHP55 per day, PHP1,650 per month, and PHP19,800 per year. The income purportedly doubles with higher investments and more completed tasks.
However, the SEC-Butuan warns that recruits are unable to withdraw their earnings and are instead coerced into paying additional money to release their earnings, which never materializes. This deceptive practice continues until the recruit realizes they have been scammed.
The SEC clarified that OHO's tactics involve pseudo 'Job Scams or Tasking' and 'Recharging Scams,' misleading recruits into believing they are being hired for simple tasks that require upfront investment. It reiterated that OHO Marketing Ltd./OHO Tasking Ltd. is not registered as a corporation or partnership and lacks the necessary license to solicit or accept investments from the public.
