Manila: The shear line and the northeast monsoon, locally known as "amihan," are expected to bring significant rainfall across several regions of Luzon, as reported by the weather bureau on Wednesday.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced in their 4 a.m. advisory that a shear line is currently affecting the eastern section of Central Luzon. This weather phenomenon is causing cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms over the provinces of Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, and Aurora. Authorities have issued warnings that the rains, which may be moderate to heavy at times, could trigger flash floods or landslides, particularly in low-lying and mountainous areas.

The northeast monsoon is also influencing weather conditions in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) and the rest of Cagayan Valley, resulting in cloudy skies accompanied by light to moderate rainfall. There is a possibility of the rainfall intensifying, prompting similar warnings of potential flash floods or landslides.

In the Ilocos Region, the monsoon is expected to bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains. For Metro Manila and other parts of the country, localized thunderstorms may develop throughout the day, leading to partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. Severe thunderstorms could potentially result in flash floods or landslides, especially in flood-prone communities.

The northern and eastern sections, along with the rest of Luzon, will experience moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast, while coastal waters are predicted to be moderate to rough. In contrast, the Visayas and Mindanao regions will have light to moderate winds blowing from the northeast to north, with coastal waters expected to be slight to moderate.

PAGASA has also indicated that there is no low-pressure area being monitored at this time.
