South Korean Fugitive Nabbed in Misamis Oriental

Manila: A South Korean wanted for fraud in his home country was arrested in Misamis Oriental, the Philippine National Police (PNP)-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) said on Monday. In a statement, CIDG officer-in-charge Brig. Gen. Rolindo Suguilon identified the Korean fugitive as 'Jang', 53.

According to Philippines News Agency, Suguilon said authorities arrested Jang on June 13 in Barangay Igpit, Opol, using a red notice issued by the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) on March 1, 2022, for violations of Articles 3 and 11 (Fraud) of the Punishment of Tax Offenses Act of South Korea. After documentation at the CIDG Regional Field Unit 10 Office in Camp Evangelista, Patag, Cagayan de Oro City, Jang was brought to the Bureau of Immigration (BI) in Manila for proper disposition.

Suguilon stated that Jang's arrest sends a strong message that the country is not safe for fugitives of the law. 'This swift and responsive police service that led to the capture of the Korean fugitive underscores the CIDG's relentless effort in arresting all wanted persons in the country,' he said.

The CIDG has been active in pursuing fugitives, resulting in the arrest of 46 wanted persons and fugitives across the country on June 10. Those arrested face charges that include murder, rape, arson, and estafa. 'Rest assured that the CIDG is steadfast in enforcing all the laws and unrelenting in its fight against most wanted persons and fugitives, local or foreign nationals nationwide,' Suguilon added.
