Spikers’ Turf: King Cruncher Requinton Named Player of the Week

Manila: Criss Cross hitter Jaron Requinton was voted Player of the Week Monday for his outstanding performance in the 2025 Spikers' Turf Open Conference. The former University of Santo Tomas beach volleyball standout scored nine points in their 25-12, 25-18, 25-22 win over VNS-Laticrete last Wednesday and had 18 points when the King Crunchers stunned the defending champion Cignal HD Spikers, 19-25, 25-14, 25-20, 25-19, the following day.

According to Philippines News Agency, the 24-year-old capped off the week with a career-best 22 points, built on 15 attacks, five kill blocks, and two service aces, as Criss Cross pulled off a 20-25, 25-13, 24-26, 25-19, 15-11 victory over Savouge on Sunday, maintaining their perfect record after nine outings. Requinton won the weekly (March 12 to 16) award handed out by reporters covering the league, beating teammates Jude Garcia and Ish Polvorosa, CJ Segui of VNS, Steven Rotter of Cignal, and Mark Calado of Savouge.

"Of course, I'm also proud of myself that the hard work I put into training seems to be paying off now," the 6-foot-2 Requinton said in a news release. "The things the coaches worked hard to build in me in training, but now I can go out on the court no matter who the opponent is. I really don't want to disappoint them with the performance I put out every game," he added.

Requinton stated that their victories over Cignal and Savouge have boosted their confidence heading into the semifinals. "It also boosts our morale and at the same time, we must also learn not to be complacent. Because when the semis come, it will all be gone, everything will be back to zero," he added.

Criss Cross will face PGJC-Navy on Wednesday before shifting its focus to the round-robin semifinals.
