Quezon city: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) placed a sports utility vehicle (SUV) under alarm on Tuesday due to its involvement in a hit-and-run incident with a motorcycle in Quezon City. The alarm on the vehicle is intended to prevent all transactions involving the SUV with the LTO.
According to Philippines News Agency, LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II stated that this action aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to pursue errant motorists. "We already identified the registered owner of the Land Cruiser, and we already issued a show cause order. We are yet to determine if the owner was the driver of the vehicle at that time; this will be the subject of the ongoing investigation and the reason why he was summoned," Mendoza explained.
The driver involved in the incident will have their license immediately suspended for 90 days once identified, as part of the investigation. The Land Cruiser SUV, bearing license plate No. NAJ 9218, collided with a motorcycle on July 11 along Commonwealth Avenue in front of the UP Technohub in Quezon City. The collision resulted in injuries to the rider and damage to the motorcycle, while the SUV driver fled the scene.
Following the accident, other motorists and bystanders assisted the injured rider to a nearby hospital. Subsequently, a show cause order (SCO) was issued to both the vehicle owner and the driver, requiring them to appear before the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) at the LTO headquarters in Quezon City on Thursday.
The SCO demands that the owner and driver provide a written explanation as to why they should not be held accountable for reckless driving and failing to fulfill the Duty of Driver in case of Accident as stipulated in Section 55 of R.A. 4136. Additionally, they must justify why the driver's license should not be suspended or revoked for being deemed an Improper person to Operate a Motor Vehicle, as outlined in Section 27 (a) of Republic Act 4136.
