Manila: The Bureau of the Treasury (BTr) has announced that the Auction Committee has fully awarded the Treasury bills worth PHP25 billion. The auction took place on Monday, with the BTr successfully raising PHP8 billion from the 91-day T-bills, which achieved an average rate of 5.546 percent. Additionally, the 182-day T-bills also raised PHP8 billion with an average yield of 5.675 percent, while the PHP9-billion 364-day T-bills garnered a yield of 5.691 percent.
According to Philippines News Agency, the latest auction yields for Treasury bills have mostly risen slightly, marking the fourth increase in five weeks. This trend is occurring amid the ongoing 10-year Treasury bond offering, which will continue until April 24, 2025, unless concluded earlier. This bond offering could potentially absorb some of the excess peso liquidity from the financial system. Michael Ricafort, chief economist at Rizal Commercial Banking Corp., noted that the uptick in rates is also influenced by a possible rise in inflation in the United States following former President Trump's policy to increase tariffs.
The auction attracted significant interest, being three times oversubscribed with total bids amounting to PHP73.9 billion.
