Cavite: Electoral Board (EB) members who will serve in the special polls on August 29 in the Fourth Legislative District of Cavite are set to receive up to PHP12,000, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Saturday.

According to Philippines News Agency, in Resolution No. 11257, the Commission en banc announced that the honorarium for EB chairpersons will be PHP12,000; EB members will receive PHP11,000; and EB support staff will be given PHP5,000. The resolution specifies that the compensation package for the chairperson and members of the EB includes honoraria, travel, communication, and meal allowances. The Comelec confirmed that these payments will be disbursed within 15 calendar days from the date of the special election.

Additionally, EB chairpersons and members will earn a fixed service credit of 10 calendar days. The Cavite special polls will involve 1,308 clustered precincts, each staffed by an EB composed of a chairperson, poll clerk, and a third member.

The Commission further revealed that the local government of Dasmari±as City has contributed PHP50 million to partly fund the budget for the poll workers' honorarium, which totals over PHP76 million. The upcoming special polls aim to fill the vacancy left by Francisco Barzaga Jr., who was ousted from office in June due to "disorderly behavior, conduct unbecoming of a member, and violations of the House Code of Conduct."

The five candidates vying for the congressional seat are Raul Rex Mangubat, Marvin Dupal-ag, Leysander Ordenes, Jacinto Frani Jr., and Dasmari±as Mayor Jennifer Barzaga, the mother of the expelled lawmaker. Mayor Barzaga is serving her third and final term, having previously served the maximum nine years from 2007 to 2016. She was subsequently elected as the Fourth District representative from 2016 to 2019, a post previously held by her late husband, Elpidio Barzaga Sr.
