Toyota Motors PH Sees Fiscal Incentives as Key to Industry Competitiveness

Santa rosa: Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation (TMP) has highlighted fiscal incentives as a crucial factor in maintaining competitiveness within the industry by helping players manage costs effectively. The company's officials emphasized the importance of government policies in strengthening local manufacturing industries, including vehicle manufacturing and the parts supply chain.

According to Philippines News Agency, TMP officials assess government policies based on their impact on local manufacturing capabilities. They believe that fiscal incentives for investments in local capabilities, along with supportive policies such as promoting locally manufactured vehicles, are instrumental in keeping production costs competitive. These measures also boost domestic demand, contributing to higher economies of scale.

Companies operating in areas registered under the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) benefit from several incentives outlined in Executive Order (EO) 226. These include income tax exemptions for a specific period, tax and duty-free importation of capital equipment, spare parts, and raw materials, and tax credits.

TMP manages the 32-hectare Toyota Special Economic Zone (TSEZ) in Santa Rosa, Laguna. This zone includes its wholly-owned logistics arm, Toyota Motor Philippines Logistics, Inc. (TLI), and its franchised dealership, Toyota Santa Rosa, Laguna, Inc. (TSR).

In the first half of 2025, TMP reported a significant 66 percent annual increase in net income, reaching PHP12.5 billion. This growth was attributed to a strong retail sales volume, a healthy mix of models, and favorable foreign exchange movements. In the previous year, TMP recorded a net income of PHP15.9 billion, making it one of the top taxpayers in Santa Rosa, with total taxes and fees amounting to PHP1.16 billion.

The company's logistics arm plays a vital role in its global supply chain, enabling the export of original equipment manufacturing parts and components. Despite having over 4,000 employees, TMP does not currently plan to expand its workforce, stating that it is maintaining its current staff levels.
