Tre±as to Leave Iloilo City Gov’t in Good Financial Condition

Iloilo City: Mayor Jerry Tre±as will leave the city government in good condition, including the financial aspect, once he steps down from office on June 30.

According to Philippines News Agency, Tre±as announced in a press conference that the city government boasts PHP4.11 billion in general funds, PHP1.3 billion in special education funds, PHP135 million in local economic and enterprise office funds, and a PHP574 million trust fund, which includes a PHP297 million disaster fund. These funds are deposited with the Development Bank of the Philippines. Tre±as stated, "The finances of the city are in the pink of health."

The city government had already formed a local governance transition team by April 2, which is chaired by the city mayor. This team was amended on May 21. Executive Order 31-A states that establishing the transition team is crucial for maintaining institutional knowledge, ensuring continuity of service delivery, and fostering public trust in local governance.

Tre±as has communicated with the incoming mayor, Raisa Tre±as-Chu, noting that the transition is smooth since she is familiar with the city hall staff. "She will be the mayor; she will make the final decision. I already gave her the list of the executive assistants. At the end of my term, all appointments for co-terminus positions are terminated," he remarked.

He further assured that all necessary documents for the transition are prepared and transparent, ensuring a seamless handover to the new administration.
