Tropical Cyclone Caloy Anticipated to Enter Philippine Area of Responsibility This Weekend

Manila: A tropical cyclone is forecast to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) this weekend, according to the head of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

According to Philippines News Agency, PAGASA detected a low pressure area (LPA) 2,870 km east of northeastern Mindanao as of 8 a.m. PAGASA Administrator Nathaniel Servando said that this LPA is projected to escalate into a tropical depression within the next 48 hours.

Servando stated that upon its entry into PAR on Saturday or Sunday, the cyclone will be designated as Caloy, marking it as the third tropical cyclone in the country this year. He did not specify whether the cyclone would bring rainfall or influence the country's weather conditions but mentioned that it is improbable for it to make landfall.

"The chance for a landfall is low, but we will closely monitor," he added. Meanwhile, PAGASA also identified another LPA, approximately 1,350 km east of northeastern Mindanao as of 8 a.m. PAGASA indicated that this LPA is not expected to develop into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours.
