Manila: Tropical Depression Maymay has further weakened, with maximum sustained winds decreasing to 45 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness reaching up to 70 kph. This information was detailed in the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) 5 p.m. bulletin released on Thursday.

According to Philippines News Agency, Maymay was last located 150 kilometers east northeast of Echague, Isabela, and it is moving east southeast at a speed of 35 kph. Despite the weakening of Maymay, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 remains in effect over several regions in Northern Luzon. These areas include the southeastern portion of mainland Cagayan, parts of Isabela, Quirino, and the northeastern portion of Nueva Vizcaya, along with northern and central portions of Aurora. Additionally, the eastern portions of Kalinga, Mountain Province, and Ifugao are also under the signal.

Residents in these areas should expect strong winds as Maymay continues its path. The weather bureau has indicated that most of the country will experience strong to gale-force gusts due to the combined effects of the southwest monsoon, known locally as habagat, and the periphery of Maymay.

A gale warning has been issued for the seaboard of extreme Northern Luzon. PAGASA forecasts that Maymay will likely weaken further into a remnant low either later tonight or by early Friday.
