San jose de buenavista: The PHP10 million worth of sports equipment from the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) is expected to strengthen grassroots sports development in Antique.

According to Philippines News Agency, the equipment was released to 18 local government units and seven schools during a ceremony at the Binirayan Sports Complex in San Jose de Buenavista on Thursday. The distribution included basketball, volleyball, table tennis, and boxing equipment aimed at enhancing the province's sports infrastructure.

PSC Commissioner Matthew "Fritz" Gaston, in a video message, emphasized the anticipated positive impact on sports development in the region. "The sports equipment are for our athletes to use in their intertown sports activities," he stated, highlighting the potential for improved athletic performance and increased participation in sports.

The Antique Athletic League, an intertown sports program launched in 2022, continues to play a crucial role in developing local athletes' skills, enabling them to qualify for regional and national sports competitions. This initiative, aided by the new equipment, is expected to further boost the league's objectives.

Rep. Antonio Agapito Legarda expressed gratitude to the PSC for its support, expressing hope that the initiative would motivate local athletes to excel. Meanwhile, Antique Governor Paolo Everardo Javier noted the dual benefits of sports in developing athletes both physically and mentally.

League of the Municipalities of the Philippines - Antique chapter Vice President Aser Baladjay remarked on the significance of the equipment, stating that athletes across different municipalities would now have resources to use during practice and tournaments.
