Ilocos norte: Hundreds of farmers in Currimao, Ilocos Norte can now file insurance claims for the crops damaged by Super Typhoon Nando (international name Ragasa), which lashed Northern Luzon earlier this week. Engr. Erickson Biag, municipal agriculturist, on Friday said the filing of insurance claims with the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) is ongoing until Sept. 30 at the Farmers Hall of Currimao Farmers Livelihood and Training Center.
According to Philippines News Agency, the wake of Super Typhoon Nando, which struck northern Ilocos from Sept. 18 to 22, 2025, resulted in significant damage to agricultural commodities across the municipality, particularly affecting rice, corn, and high-value crops. The PCIC application activity, which began on Thursday, aims to expedite the processing of crop insurance claims for the impacted farmers, as stated by Biag.
Biag mentioned that they anticipate around 800 farmers from various barangays of Currimao to participate and submit their claims applications. As of Friday afternoon, 304 farmers have already filed their insurance claims. These claims are pending onsite validation and preliminary assessment, which will be conducted jointly by personnel from the PCIC and the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO).
With assistance from MAO personnel, farmer-applicants were guided in completing the necessary documentation for insurance processing. While waiting for their turn, they were informed about insurance coverage and future climate risk mitigation strategies.
Based on PCIC coverage, insured farmers can receive up to a maximum of PHP20,000 per hectare for totally damaged crops.
