Bacolod City: Drug operatives in Western Visayas were ordered to sustain their aggressive campaign amid successful operations in the region last month. Brig. Gen. Jack Wanky, the region's top cop, directed them to further intensify their intelligence gathering, operations against drug syndicates, and engagement with various stakeholders.

According to Philippines News Agency, data released by the regional office showed that in February, the regionwide operations yielded around PHP40 million worth of shabu and marijuana, which is lower by PHP5 million compared to their accomplishment in January. Police Regional Office 6 spokesperson Lt. Col. Arnel Solis mentioned that Wanky has a standing order for them to 'intensify information gathering and continue the aggressive operations against those engaging in illegal drug activity across the region.'

The 254 regional operations in February yielded more than 5.8 kg of shabu with an estimated value of PHP39.67 million and over 2.5 kg of marijuana worth PHP302,000, leading to the arrest of 334 suspects. The biggest haul came from the Bacolod City Police Office with PHP11.1 million worth of drugs, followed by the Iloilo Police Provincial Office with PHP10.8 million, and the Iloilo City Police Office with PHP9.4 million.

Wanky stated that these accomplishments reflect the collective efforts of the police, community, local government units, and other law enforcement agencies. The suspects are now facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
