Marikina city: Water services in Barangay Tumana, Marikina City were finally restored on Saturday after Mayor Maan Teodoro settled PHP15 million in initial payment to Manila Water. Mayor Teodoro, alongside Marikina 1st District Rep. Marcy Teodoro and members of the City Council, went to the Manila Water office in Tumana to hand over the cheque.

According to Philippines News Agency, "Ngayong araw ay nagbayad tayo ng PHP15 million sa Manila Water bilang initial payment upang agarang ma-reconnect ang water services ng nasa 3,000 residents ng Barangay Tumana (Today, we paid PHP15 million to Manila Water for the immediate reconnection of water services to about 3,000 residents of Barangay Tumana),' Teodoro said in a statement. After paying, Teodoro and the council members accompanied Manila Water personnel to open the 13 valves that service the barangay, immediately restoring water services to its residents.

During his term as mayor, Rep. Teodoro paid PHP8.8 million to the water concessionaire to reduce the mounting debt of Tumana to the water concessionaire. The debt was then only about PHP20 million, but later ballooned to more than PHP37 million as of this month.

The lady mayor said the local government will hold accountable all officials liable for failing to settle the PHP37 million debt. 'Hahanapin at papanagutin natin ang mga responsable. May mananagot, at sisiguruhin nating hindi na ito mauulit (We will identify and hold accountable those responsible. They will be made to answer for this, and we will ensure that this will never happen again),' she said.
