Work Cancellation in Private Firms Left to Employers, Says Capitol

Capitol: The decision to cancel work in the private sector is within the discretion of employers, the Negros Oriental provincial government said Friday. This announcement follows numerous inquiries received by the provincial government regarding work cancellation in private firms amid heavy rainfall caused by the southwest monsoon, which has been intensified by Tropical Storm Crising.

According to Philippines News Agency, the province's Public Information Office issued a public advisory over Facebook, stating that "the decision to suspend or continue work in private companies remains at the discretion of each establishment's management." This advisory aims to clarify that private companies have the autonomy to decide whether or not to suspend operations during inclement weather conditions.

For public offices, the local chief executives of the municipalities and the cities have the authority to "exercise discretion to suspend work" in accordance with Presidential Executive Order No. 66. This order allows for work suspension when unpredictable weather poses risks to life and property, thereby ensuring public safety during severe weather events.
