Manila: Four residents who turned over millions of pesos worth of shabu found floating off the shores of Ilocos Norte in June received cash reward from the provincial government on Monday. The four - Julita Caraang, Ferdinand Asuncion, Julius Galapia, and Lindbergn Leonador - were given PHP25,000 each during the flag-raising ceremony at the provincial capitol.

According to Philippines News Agency, the vigilance and cooperation of these residents are crucial in efforts to eradicate and block illegal drug sources in the community, as highlighted by the Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office (INPPO) in a statement. The cash incentive was provided by Ilocos Norte Governor Cecilia Araneta-Marcos and INPPO, led by Colonel Joemar Labiano.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency reported that packs of shabu with Chinese character markings, weighing at least 1 kilogram each, were found drifting along the shorelines of Currimao, Laoag, Paoay, and Pagudpud in June. These packs were part of more than PHP112 million worth of shabu discovered in the waters of Ilocos Norte and Cagayan, which were surrendered and eventually destroyed by local authorities.
